Meeting with lawmaker Ingo Bodtke

On 18 February, the World Dog Alliance (WDA) had a virtual meeting with German lawmaker Ingo Bodtke to discuss a global ban on dog and cat meat.

During the meeting, WDA introduced the landscape of dog and cat meat consumption in some Asian countries. Mr Bodtke has huge concerns on animal welfare and asked quite a few questions about the situation in Asia. As a country with dog meat banned many years ago, Mr Bodtke believes it is important for Germany to help eradicate dog and cat meat consumption worldwide. He agreed with WDA’s International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of Dogs and Cats and pledged to be supportive to the campaign. The entire world should work together to fight for animal rights.

Ingo Bodtke is a member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), one of the governing parties of the new German Government. He was first elected as a member of the German Bundestag in 2021. He is currently a member of the Committee on Food and Agriculture, and also the representative of FDP in the field of animal welfare.
