Italian Parliament could join WDA’s efforts to realize International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of Dogs and Cats

This month, the World Dog Alliance in Italian Parliament promoted its plan to establish an International Convention to Prohibit the Eating of Dogs and Cats.

Over the past four months, WDA has been lobbying to Italian Parliament (Parlamento italiano) alongside the Parliamentary Intergroup for Animal Rights (Intergruppo parlamentare per i diritti degli animali) to eliminate loopholes in the nation’s legislation had that allowed dog and cat meat consumption to continue without legal consequences.

WDA’s petition was put forward to Italian Parliament on 11th June, and proposed that offenders be imprisoned for up to 12 months and fined €50,000 if found to be guilty of consuming dog or cat meat.

After a fruitful few months of lobbying, WDA’s efforts were recognised as its founder Genlin was presented with the ‘International Dog Lover Award’ at the Milano Congressional Press Conference, held on 17th October.

Michela Brambilla, a member of Italian Parliament and an ardent animal rights campaigner, presented the award to Genlin on behalf of the Parliamentary Intergroup and in recognition of his battle against the dog meat trade.
