Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth

On 12 October 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech on ‘Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth’ at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (Kunming Summit).

The Kunming Summit aims to build a shared future for all life on Earth and promote the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which sets up meaningful goals and pathways for global biodiversity. The international society needs to cooperate, broaden consensus, move in the same direction and build a shared future for all life on Earth.

President Xi mentioned the migration of elephants in Yunnan, which has highlighted the progress of wildlife protection in China.

President Xi also announced that China would invest 1.5 billion RMB to establish the Kunming Biological Diversity Fund to support the development of biodiversity protection in developing countries.

Editor’s Notes: Recently, China has made achievements in wildlife conservation. In the future, the country will continue to build national parks. Apart from wild animals, companion animals also need our attention. Above all, they are also important components of the shared future for all life on Earth.

‘Lucid water and lush mountains are invaluable assets,’ said President Xi. Apart from the lucid water and lush mountains in nature, we should also protect the harmonious living among humans, animals and the environment. It represents people’s desire for civilization. The protection of companion animals and a ban on dog and cat meat are the international standard of a civilization.
